In a world full of hate, St. Andrew High School students are constantly reminded of love, each day. Andrews Press was honoured to have an exclusive interview with Mrs. Lisa Stiebel, Chair of the Spiritual Committee of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association, and the mastermind behind the love mural – a beautiful mural near the cafeteria and the tennis courts.
The love mural was a project the Spiritual Committee had planned to have completed before the end of the 2015/2016 academic year, and definitely in time for the school’s 90th anniversary celebrations.
With the aid of past student, Mrs. Rachel Wade-Moss, in the designing of the layout and choosing of colours; Deputy Head Girl and President of the Art Society, Lauren Silvera; and a few Art students; the project became a reality during the Easter Break on Friday, April 1, 2016.
From her very first visit to St. Andrew, which was even before her daughter became a student, Mrs. Stiebel had envisioned a mural on that very wall. Love, a message so simple yet greatly misunderstood, was the perfect subject.
The mural, which reflects the words of 1 Corinthians 13, was painted so that everyone who sits and eats lunch, walks or drives by, can be inspired by the simple message of God’s UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Her only hope is for persons to feel loved when they see it, and be lead to love each other as Christ loves us.
